眼看著24小時過去,  這電腦還是癱在那邊,  晚上給小朋友洗好澡後,  我打算來試看看 Sony 的 CHAT Support.

我英打速度絕對不輸美國本地人,  加上在公司裡跟同事用 IM,  也算是被密集訓練過,  這 CHAT 基本上比用電話還方便.  所以趁著小朋友洗完澡忙著吃宵夜點心,  我進來用電腦跟 SONY 搞.

SONY　的 Tech Support 還算是容易聯絡上的,  這 CHAT session 是沒等多久就開講了.

前幾分鐘還講得蠻有條理的,  還在想可能終於遇上一個瞭解狀況的師父,  搞不好今天就真能擺定.
還在想的時候,  Sam, technician 的名字,  回了一句 -

"you need re-seat the RAM."

這可把我給嚇到了. 

知道什麼是 re-seat RAM 嗎 ? 把 memory module takes out and put it back ! 意思是,  我得找螺絲起子把電腦後面的板子給打開,  把 RAM 拿出來,  再裝回去.

我是離開硬體世界有些時間了,  但是,   你隨便亂開電腦後面的板子,  很多時候會 void the warranty　-  原廠保證會自動取消.  我半信半疑的問了 Sam,  他說不會 void the warranty,  聽起來好像很平常的樣子,  還寄給我圖解,  告訴我那根螺絲要鬆開,  怎麼把 RAM 給取出來.

好嘛,  請 Sam 等一下,  我去翻出來一隻小螺絲起子,  要能轉開電腦板子的螺絲起子是要小的,  那種做工的太大,  不能用. 

三分鐘後,  面板開了,  看到 RAM module.  這下問題來了. 

這片 RAM 不肯動,  卡得很緊,  鬆不開.

我想想,  就算了,  本來就是只要一片 Recovery Disc 就能了斷,  問 Sam,  什麼時候 Recovery Disc 可以被寄出來,  我拿不出來 RAM.

Sam 回我一句,  他們不能寄 Recovery Disc.

"Hold on a second, what do you mean you can not dispatch recovery disc ?"  我回問.

Ｓam 說,  每個　Sony 的系統,  都有一個 8GB 的 Partition, 所有的 Recovery Disc 的資料都在那個 Partition 上.

"That's fine, but right now I can't get to that partition, what else am I supposed to do ?"

Sam 說,  "hit the F10 key, then you can get to that partition."

"Sam, you did not hear me, I hit the F10, but gone no where, it keeps asking for recovery disc.".

"You need re-seat the RAM."

"But I can't get RAM out !"

"......"

"Do you have any supervisor or area manager available ? I would like to escalate this issue."

"Please hold on a minute."

幾分鐘後, Chelsea,  加入 Chat session, Sam 離開 Chat session.

Chelsea 要了幾分鐘先查之前的對話,  瞭解狀況一下,  然後說,  "I saw Sam has asked you to re-seat the RAM ?"

"Yes, he did, but I am unable to get it out !"

"No problem, I saw you have called our tech support center earlier."

"Yes, we did, 10 minutes after we received it, we followed everything the tech asked us, no luck, he later asked us to fax over information, stated that we will be contacted and recovery disc would be dispatched, yet, no word from anyone ever since. Can you find out when we can receive the recovery disc ? That's all I want to find out."

"Unfortunately, we are not authorized to dispatch recovery disc, you will need contact this 1-800 number."

"But I called them, they said I have to contact tech support, what do you mean you are not authorized to dispatch recovery disc ? What do you expect me to do with this laptop that doesn't start ?"

"You can send it back where you purchased it from and asked for replacement."

"I bought it from SonyStyle.com, what should I do to request return ?"

"You need contact our Customer Relation, to request return."

"Another 1-800 number ?"

"Yes. This system is also under warranty, you can also send it to service center for service. I also saw you have in-home service, you can call them, someone can schedule and service it at your house."

"This is just too much drag."

"You can always call Customer Relation and return the product. They will provide you with further detail information."

對話到這邊,  已經將近兩個小時,  我也沒力,  也沒心情發飆,  心想,  我再給他兩天,  不行我就自己試,  公司那邊一定弄得到 Professional 64-bit 的 DVD,  只是要花點時間就是了.  誰叫我窮,  買不起新貨,  只能買個 refurbish 的.  但是想到 Chelsea 提到 in-home service, 我又再瞄了一眼,  這 laptop 還真的是有一個一年的到府維修的保證,  我想,  最壞打算,  就讓某人打電話給 SONY 安排這個所謂的到府服務吧.

要是一星期後還搞不出個所以然來,  連我自己都弄擺不平,  我就認輸退貨.

下了線, 　這電腦面板被打開,  還是要鎖上.　反正都被打開了,  索性把十年前的電腦工具盒給翻出來,  看看能不能 Re-seat 這個 RAM. 

有正確的工具還是有差,  三秒鐘,  這 RAM 就下來,  五秒鐘,  就再放回原位鎖上.  開機給他試了一下,  看到 VAIO,  hit F10  key.

嘿 ! 居然有用 ! 

真的跳進那個 Recovery Partition !

既然進了 Partition, 就讓他 self-recover 吧 !  反正也沒損失.

就這樣,  這台 Sony VAIO,  36 小時後,  終於有不同的畫面顯示出來.

進入自動維修狀態後,  我就把電腦交給某人,  讓他自己去 baby sit 之後的工作.  我累了!

大概兩個半小時候,  recovery 完畢.  Re-boot,  終於進入 Windows 7 !

接下來,  也一切正常.  我把其它像是 Office 2007 Enterprise 的 DVD 擺出來,  隔天某人就全部裝好.
也順利接上家裡的 Wireless network,  買了片Ｂlu-ray 的 DVD 來放,  也能動,  也做了後備光碟以防萬一.

本來還想要不要再去騷擾一下 Sony 的 Tech Support,  想想,  就算了.  也不是閒著沒事幹,  問題擺定,  雖然不是很理想的擺定方式,  但是還是解決了,  就饒過他們了. 

Lesson learned about dealing with SONY laptop.  F10 key is important.
也算是學到一門課了 !

隔天星期一,  跟組裡的 Jason 說我的 Sony 到了,  36 小時之內發生的事,  他也沒笑,  就只丟了一句說 " i3 is slow. you should get i5."

"Man ! it's expensive ! I can barely afford i3 and it's refurbished !"

"Yeah, it's true. Anyway, it works now, right ?"

"Yeah, it works, now I wait for my desktop..."

沒錯 ! 我一次買了兩台電腦,  一台是 Sony VAIO 的 laptop.

另一台,  是跟公司用員工價,  汰換現在這台老舊的 desktop.
